The One Tip That Made Me Fall in Love With Fashion and My Body Again
Jacket (Zara, similar here) \\ Top (Topshop) \\ Jeans (Express) \\ Shoes (Steve Madden Daisie Pumps in Black Suede) \\ Bag (Zara) \\ Sunglasses (Adam Selman x Le Specs The Last Lolita in White) \\ Earrings (Topshop)
I gained a lot of weight over the past two years and it affected me in so many ways that I am just beginning to understand. It is a difficult topic to discuss because so many of us struggle with our body image and I feel like vocalizing what I don’t like about myself will inevitably offend some people. I definitely don’t want to take away from today’s body positivity movement, which I support 1000%.
However, this is my reality and I know that there are many of you out there that can relate. Being body positive doesn’t mean you have to ignore those moments when you don’t feel great. I personally got to a point where I didn’t feel well physically. It was as if I could literally feel the extra weight on my chest. Continue reading
NARS SS15 NYFW Trend Recap
NARS Lead Makeup Stylist Cindy Rodriguez did a demo on the trends seen at the Spring 2015 New York Fashion Week shows this month.
I am telling you in advance that I will not be trendy next spring because the minimalist makeup look is what dominated the shows this season. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about skin but I’m also all about doing the most on the eyes and lips. Luckily Cindy consolidated the looks NARS did at Michael Costello, Alexander Wang, Thakoon, Rag & Bone and Tanya Taylor featuring luminous perfected skin, a bold brow and a bright lip…now that’s more like it lol.
Throughout the demo we got a chance to see some of the brand’s newest products in action, like the recently launched All Day Luminous Powder Foundation. A few light layers of the powder to set the mix of compact foundation and serum she used on the model did not leave a cakey finish; the skin remained fresh and luminous. According to her, it still performs well under flash photography despite the high SPF 24. The powder was so refined that she was able to apply some of The Multiples on-top without getting a patchy look.
The eye was a slept in brown liner with a gold cream shadow applied to the lids. A brown cream product was layered underneath a brown shadow on the outer crease in a square shape.
The bold brows seen at Michael Costello were achieved by first backcombing the brows with brow gel to get the style desired. Next an eye shadow darker than the model’s hair was applied with a wet angle brush in strokes to exaggerate the brows (the strokes looked obvious and intentional). Finally the rest of the gaps in between the stroke marks were filled in with the same shadow with a dry brush.
Lastly, the lip was done with the new Velvet Lip Liner in Playa Dorado and the Audacious Lipstick in Lana (this red-orange color is definitely joining my spring/summer rotation next year). I got a chance to play with some of the other Audacious lipsticks and found them to be very creamy and richly pigmented. The two shades I wanted for the fall/winter were out of stock so I had them ordered from another boutique (haul coming soon).
